![]() “We were recording in London, which was nice, and the chemistry in the band was bar none. In mid-March, back in England the quintet returned to Lansdowne Studios to complete work on their fourth album. It was a real pleasure to work with the pair of them. Lee was a fantastic drummer, and Gary would come up with these great bass lines that never got in the way of the melody of the song but always seemed to enhance it. “Having those two powerhouses behind us provided a wonderful foundation for the band. “Now we finally had a real steam engine of a rhythm section,” Box says, admiringly. The pair’s obvious chemistry, and superior musical ability, immediately elevated the whole band to a new level. ![]() New Zealander Thain had come from the Keef Hartley Band, and clicked instantly with Heep’s other new addition, drummer Lee Kerslake, who had joined just three months previously. While Bronze Records readied The Wizard for an international release, Heep bedded in Mark Clarke’s replacement Gary Thain with a five-night stand at the Whiskey A Go Go club in Los Angeles in February ’72. That’s the note you hear at the beginning of the song.” “We went into the kitchen, recorded the kettle whistle two or three times and got it re-tuned to a high C. “We were making a cup of tea, and had the studio door open, and as we were listening back to the intro of the song we heard the whistle, and thought: ‘Hang on!” Mick Box recalls. Before the session ended, The Wizard’s semiacoustic intro was beefed up with the addition of an unusual instrument – the studio kettle. Ahead of their second visit to the US, Heep were rushed into Lansdowne Studios in Holland Park, where they tracked the song (and single B-side Why) in a matter of hours. Gerry Bron, too, heard potential in Hensley’s whimsical power ballad. I think we all knew it was something special." He couldn’t find a middle eight, so Mark Clarke wrote that, and the whole song sounded so good to everyone. “It was the first time I’d heard anyone play guitar with a drop-D tuning. “I remember Ken playing The Wizard on an acoustic guitar in the back of our van,” says Box. Mark felt that he just could not keep up with it, that he was going to have a full-on nervous breakdown if he stuck around any longer.”Īlthough Clarke’s time in the band was short, the ex-Colosseum bassist did make one lasting and significant contribution to Uriah Heep, writing a striking, harmonised middle eight for a new Ken Hensley composition titled The Wizard, based on a fantastical recurring dream he’d had every night for a week. “Mark jumped ship because he couldn’t deal with the stresses of the touring we were doing, which were excessive, I have to say,” Box says. On January 31, upon completing the final date of the Deep Purple tour, bassist Mark Clarke quit the band, having joined only four months previously. But such a lifestyle wasn’t for everyone. “You’d tell the bird you were in Uriah Heep, and next minute the hotel was full of women,” Box recalled cheerfully. Their gregarious guitarist, meanwhile, was taking advantage of his group’s burgeoning reputation by thumbing through local phone directories and placing calls to random young ladies, inviting them along to gigs and parties. When the group returned to the US for the second time, in January 1972, they were booked to open for Deep Purple, their noisy neighbours from Hanwell Community Centre. Believe me, lots of champagne was cracked open on that first night.” The American audience loved us from the first minute onwards. “We all felt that this is where we should be. ![]() “There was never a feeling of being overawed by it all,” Box insisted to Heep biographer Dave Ling. “When we got there, and saw all the limos and groupies, it was mind-boggling for us,” Hensley said later. For the Londoners it was a first glimpse of the infinite possibilities of rock stardom. In between the two releases, on March 26, ’71 Uriah Heep played their first show in the US, supporting Three Dog Night, in front of 16,000 people at the State Fairground’s Coliseum in Indianapolis, Indiana. Their unfairly maligned Very ’Eavy, Very ’Umble album, mixing folk, blues, jazz and hard rock, was followed by two studio albums in 1971: the progressive rock-inclined Salisbury – on which multi-talented keyboard player Ken Hensley began to eclipse Box and frontman David Byron as the band’s main songwriter – and Look At Yourself, the first release on Gerry Bron’s new record label Bronze Records. By their own admission, on their first three albums the young Uriah Heep were “just thrashing about trying to find a direction”. ![]()

We found an article about these, evidently because they are from different developers. Hundreds of files of errors, file names, extensions, names too long, symbols, whatever. Migrating all the files over from ODP to ODB it became apparent the two systems, both MS products (!), have different file requirements. We recently switched to MS for Exchange hosting (from App River) and ODB, hence the likely permanently erased emails mentioned above. Each of my staff were using their own ODP accounts remotely to backup their files in the cloud. MS has been challenging recently we also realized there is a problem between OneDrive Personal (ODP) and OneDrive for Business (ODB). I get that MS and Mac compete, but I pay MS for products just like I did on PC and they aren't as good. I immediately noticed how little MS spends attention on Mac products which is unfortunate. I made the switch to Mac 12 months ago, longtime PC. and they'll likely be findable But my problem is that I had a lot of "On My Computer" emails dragged over from a terminated Exchange account that I hope I can find. I thought maybe they'd pull forward in the account files but all seem to be gone - that was Friday so Monday I'll call support. But when I installed the upgrade from 2011 to 2016 Office the Outlook files all evidently disappeared. Updating to Office 365 Outlook 2016 for Mac solved this for me. ![]() ![]() ![]() There’s a small charging port towards the back left end of the deck and it has a little plastic cap to keep the innards clean. Given the compact folding design and light weight of this unit it’s best to simply bring the whole thing inside with you wherever you go. I was told that the pack can be replaced (along with tires and other parts) but that it’s not designed to be charged separately from the scooter itself. ![]() ![]() It’s well protected in there and also keeps the center of gravity low, much like other kick scooters I’ve tried. Powering this electric kick scooter is a relatively large 36 volt 10 amp hour battery pack stored inside the deck. To reduce skidding and stop quicker I recommend leaning back when you apply the brakes so more weight goes into the rear wheel which can increase friction. I think the rotor size is 140 mm but wasn’t able to confirm, it’s small but very effective at stopping the small wheel. There’s also the mechanical disc brake unit in the back. Also located in the rear is a small kickstand which is handy for storage. One benefit from the solid rubber design there is that you won’t ever get a flat and you can skid more before requiring a replacement tire. I haven’t seen any kick scooters with ~8″ wheels that have inflated tires on the same wheel as the motor so I’m not going to complain about the “harder” rear wheel. I like having the motor in the back here because you can easily lift the front and it offers lighter, faster steering while also enabling the inflated front tire for comfort. Some electric kick scooters position the motor in the front wheel and this makes for shorter wires (for power and braking) but also makes lifting the unit, like up and over curbs, a bit awkward and heavy. For me it felt zippy and even performed in grass so I’m assuming short hills would be doable if you approach with some speed, but I’m not especially heavy at ~135 lbs so take this with a grain of salt. It’s fairly quiet and likely very durable because it doesn’t contain any moving parts (aside from the bearings). It can be thrilling to hit 18 mph (the top speed of this unit) but that’s not always what you want… in crowded spaces or while carrying gear for example.ĭriving the I-MAX T3 is a standard 250 watt gearless hub motor built into the rear wheel. Aside from the ride quality, my favorite part about this unit is the five drive modes that help you limit power and speed. I especially like the handle bars which aren’t spring loaded and instead opt for little sliding cuffs that feel magnetic. I was able to unfold the unit with one hand (and my foot) while filming and that’s not always possible. At ~33 lbs this isn’t the lightest unit but it’s still portable and the folding mechanisms all feel solid without being too frustrating to use. It’s sturdy, works even if the battery is completely full (where regen might not) and allows you to do some fun skids) as shown in the video review above. That isn’t such a bad thing though, with this e-scooter you get a solid mechanical disc brake in the rear. Many electric scooters offer regenerative braking, some only offer regenerative braking… but the T3 does not. The deck is spacious and you can rest your rear foot on the hard plastic fender without dragging on the wheel or bumping the brakes. The rear wheel is solid (with a sort of internally ribbed honeycomb structure) but the front uses a small schrader tube just like a bicycle. Compared to some of the other models I’ve tried it just feels smoother… that’s due to the larger eight inch wheels and air-filled front tire. It’s a high quality build with decent range and it’s fairly affordable at ~$1k. Easy to maintain. The I-MAX T3 is one of my favorite electric kick scooters on the market right now. With a 300 watt motor, the E-4.5 takes you everywhere around your neighborhood like to the mall, movies, ice cream shop, park, or school, at a speed up to 12 mph for up to 5 miles. ![]() ![]() If you've got the time to learn, and the desire to destroy, Crusader contains more than enough action and explosions to satisfy.Crusader: No Regret is a direct sequel to Crusader: No Remorse, its events starting 46 hours after those depicted in the previous game. That reason alone is why Crusader didn't end up in my circular file. In the end, the game's control problems can be overcome by those patient enough to master them. ![]() Even more impressive is the game's sound, which delivers a thumping techno soundtrack crisply enough to bring a tear to the eye of any rave fanatic. ![]() Although the acting often leaves a lot to be desired, each of these distractions look absolutely great. On the positive side, the Saturn does a fantastic job of delivering the cutscenes. The end result looked a lot like a drunken Barney Fife finally given a chance to cut loose on Mayberry's criminal element. Aside from his lemming-like attraction to water, my Silencer also spent most of the game walking with an unsteady gait as I tried desperately to keep him facing the right direction while simultaneously drilling guards. I just never could seem to turn in time before getting waxed). And perhaps more importantly, controlling Silencer as he jaunts around the bases can be irritating at best (in my saved games there's about 400 red suited - and dead - heroes at the bottom of a pond. Graphics are grainy and dull when compared to the slick and shiny renderings of the original. Unfortunately, not all the power of this destructive experience has made it through the translation from PC to the Saturn. No more running around inside a Rubbermaid house firing powerful weapons with abandon - squeezing off a volley of shots here shatters glass, blows up chemical tanks, and turns a previously helpful computer terminal into an oddly shaped ashtray. And this is Crusader's greatest strength - just about every item on screen can be destroyed. Crusader is displayed in a surprisingly intuitive three-quarters view (as seen in Populous or Syndicate), and is filled with loads of lovely items that explode into tiny, tiny pieces with a spray from Silencer's always handy weapon. Infiltrating one of the Economic Consortium's (our hero's old boss) largest scientific bases, the Crusader (aka the Silencer), must run from level to level grabbing keycards, killing guards, and avoiding traps - all while keeping a positive mental attitude (actually I just made that last bit up - players in a really bad mood will probably experience more success during the game). Crusader tells the story of a trained killer whose conscience has finally driven him to join the same group of rebels he once capped for a living. Origin's newest Saturn release, Crusader: No Remorse, falls somewhere in between these two categories.įor you console purists out there, here's a little background info. Unfortunately, for every addictive port that hits the shelves (Command & Conquer, Myst, and Sim City 2000 to name a few), there's an equal number of games that just don't retain some aspect of the original makeup that made it so great in the first place. A lot of games have been making the move from PC to console lately, and for the most part, that's a good thing. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() It shines like a brilliant gem into the soul. As a therapist/healer who helps people heal from trauma and find a spiritual light within nature to guide their life, I highly recommend this book. Tim's humility, honesty, trans-parency, and authenticity is deeply engaging and refreshing. He wrestles with his demons, even while Mother Nature guides and holds him in a safe space until he comes at the end of his journey to a place of peace. The landscape, weather and individuals he meets entertain, cajole, nurture, threaten, and push him to go deeper into memories and dreams. What makes this book particularly special is that as Tim journeys, he realizes that, at least in part, it is helping him heal from the trauma of teenage sexual abuse and a painful, fractured marriage. His curiosity about, and love of, people, land and history shines through every word. Timothy Herwig illuminates the literature of walking with profound observation and self-contemplation. – Paul Goodnature, teacher, Humanities, Albert Lea Senior High School. Young readers will find comfort and hope in the stories of challenge and triumph while more mature ones will find themselves reflecting on their own journeys as they, like Herwig, are inspired to discover their way home to the people they are. ![]() While doing so, he recalls in vivid details the significant and life changing events of his past in this coming-of-age story. Intensely personal, Herwig’s The Long Way Home describes the long and literal walking journey he takes as an adult to his home in Minnesota. – Craig Cox, author of Storefront Revolution: Food Co-ops and the Counterculture Part aching memoir, part meticulous travelogue, The Long Way Home is both a masterful portrait of small-town America and an inspiring tale of hard-earned redemption. Along the way, he rediscovers a sense of self with the help of dozens of ordinary Midwesterners who share their own trials and triumphs. Seeking to exorcise demons both recent and enduring, Tim Herwig set out to walk from his adopted home of Chicago into the arms of friends and family 500 miles north. His first book of collected plays, sash & trim and other plays, was a finalist for the Lambda Literary Award in 2014 Professor of Theater, George Mason University. His photographic journey transcends time and place in the best possible way, and ultimately leads him right back where he belongs. The Long Way Home gives new meaning to Emerson's words: “It's not the destination, it's the journey.” As Herwig opens to the land during his quest for that elusive state of being known as home, he opens to memories of childhood, family, and to the histories of all the idiosyncratic people he encounters along the way. His meetings with people and places along the journey open up the history, culture and experience of this part of the Midwest in a way that will captivate any interested reader. So begins The Long Way Home - a closely observed account of the author's actual 5-week, 500-mile walk from Chicago to Minneapolis and parallel journey through the memories of his traumatic and painful life as a young man. We run so far and so deep that memory becomes forgetfulness. Terrible things done to us, and terrible things we have done to others. Some of the memories we keep inside, some of them are terrible. They attach themselves to anything that can bear to take them. They seep out of us like a spring or the fog and attach themselves to objects, sounds, smells, the wind. The memories of lives lived having kept everything inside. Yet the landscape is haunted with memories. So you keep your head down and your thoughts inside. It’s infinitely blue in summer and hammering gray in winter. Anyone who lives out in the open where little stands between you and the horizon knows this. "We keep things inside, those of us who live in the Midwest. ![]() ![]() ![]() Each world has about 6 levels that fall within the world’s theme. Many levels utilize both foreground and background, using pipes to get between areas (a similar mechanic was seen in Donkey Kong Country: Returns). Levels are selected from a hub world where players can keep track of their high score and items collected. Stepping on certain areas causes a small flower to grow and some obstacles can only be cleared after defeating an enemy. Each level has 3 golden paperclips and 1 golden button to be collected that are used to unlock secrets later in the game. Some environments can be interacted with. There are also levels where you can ride a sled in snow or a minecart on rails. The cute cardboard protagonist is a bit of a slow runner but possesses the ability to double jump in order to reach platforms.Ĭertain levels feature powered-up versions of the character, such as a laser-equipped spacesuit or a torpedo-launching submarine for underwater levels. Nonetheless, the game still poses its challenges with hard to reach collectibles and complex level designs. With no timer, slow moving enemies, and a floaty character, Paper Monsters Recut appeals to gamers who want a break from high-paced platformers like Mario and Sonic. The game opens as Paperland is overrun by evil monsters and it’s up to the hero character to transverse Paperland and defeat monsters and bosses along the way. Originally a mobile device game, Mobot Studios “recut” (pun intended I’m sure) and upscaled the game for Wii U. Paper Monsters Recut is an adorable platformer that loosely combines the pace and feel of Little Big Planet with some inspiration from the Donkey Kong Country series and Yoshi’s Island games.
